How To Turn Off Honda Accord Alarm Without Remote

How To Turn Off Honda Accord Alarm Without Remote Or Keyfob?

Method 1. Unlock the car door manually with Keys

This is the very first thing to try out when your alarm is ringing and you don’t have access to the remote somehow or maybe it isn’t working. So, just insert your car keys in the driver’s side car door lock and turn it to unlock. If the alarm doesn’t go off even after the door has opened, just lock and unlock the door with the key a few times.

In case you can’t open the driver’s side door lock with your keys, try to open one of the passenger side doors and turn on the ignition with the key. This method of manually unlocking the passenger side car door may or may not work but most people have found the driver’s side to be effective.

Car Door Opening with Keys

Car alarms are generally designed as such that they’ll turn off when in contact with the right car key or keyfob. If the car door is already unlocked, then try locking it with the key and then unlocking it again. Since your car is being locked and unlocked by the correct key, it should send a signal to the car alarm to shut down.

Method 2. Turn ON The Ignition With The Keys

If your car has unlocked with the keys but the alarm hasn’t gone off yet, the next thing to do is turn on the car’s ignition with the car keys. The interaction of the ignition with your key should put the alarm off because your vehicle now recognizes your key.

If the alarm still doesn’t go off, start your car. And if that fails, try turning the dashboard lights on and off a couple of times and then start your car engine again. Since the alarm is meant to prevent car theft by someone who doesn’t have the key to your car. Hence, starting the car with the key turning the ignition on should be enough to turn off the alarm.

Method 3. Remove the Alarm Fuse

Car Fuses

Go through the Honda Accord manual to find the fuse box of your car if you already don’t know where it is. It could be located towards the back of the driver’s side engine compartment or in the car cabin. From the fuse diagram in the manual, identify the fuse that powers your car alarm. Then, locate it in your car and remove the alarm fuse it with a pair of nose pliers.

The alarm will go down immediately and will be reset. With the same pair of pliers or tweezers, place the car alarm fuse back where it was.

Note: If the alarm turns back on as you put the fuse in its place, the alarm may be malfunctioning. And if the alarm reactivates a couple of minutes of reinserting the fuse, there could be a faulty electronic unit of the car that is setting it off.

Method 4. Disconnecting the Car Battery

Removing the Battery

This is the last and final resort you could try out. If the above-listed tricks don’t work, you could try disengaging the car battery because the car alarm derives power from the battery to work. To do so, you need to remove the battery connections. This will shut off the alarm and also reset it.

Start by opening the car engine hood, then find the battery. If you are facing difficulty in locating it, take help from the vehicle’s manual.

Look for the negative terminal which is a thick black wire connected to the car’s body. It might also have ‘NEG’ or ‘-’ marked on it. Grab a wrench and disconnect its negative terminal by loosening the nut holding the terminal and the black ground cable. This nut won’t come off completely but you can loosen it enough to detach the cable from the terminal.

Once done, the alarm should turn off immediately. Keep in mind that you don’t need to remove the positive terminal. After waiting for about an hour, reconnect the negative terminal with the black cable.

Note: Don’t forget to put on eye protection while working with the engine especially when you’re dealing with the electrical components. You should wear a pair of safety gloves as well to protect yourself from scrapes or engine heat.

Some Tricks To Remember While Trying To Turn Off The Alarm

Car alarms usually get triggered by door sensors. So, tweaks with the car door can potentially turn off the alarm. Some of the tricks you can try out while unlocking and locking the door with keys are as follows:

  • Insert the key in the driver’s side door and turn it twice to right and then turn it twice to the left.
  • Another way out is by holding the key in the driver’s door for a couple of seconds and then, rotating it to open up the door.

Final Words

It is indeed quite simple to turn off your Honda Accord alarm even if its remote/keyfob doesn’t work. Hopefully, the above methods have helped you to get rid of the problem.

If none of these fixes helped, then there might be a deeper problem that you need to inspect. In this case, you could examine the car keys and the alarm system yourself or contact your local mechanic for assistance.
